The Classic Swing, Position 4: Top

Where the club stops as it changes direction from backswing to downswing.
Face-On Target Line
At the Top of backswing position, two distinct "V's" are formed when the body pivots properly. The first is between the Shoulder Line and the outside of the upper body from hip to shoulder. The second is between the Hip Line and the outside of the upper right leg. When combined with the head moving to the outside of the Head Circle, these three checkpoints are a great indicator of an effective pivot. The classic swing is easy to see from this view when examining the Top of backswing position. The head has remained in its circle and the tush continues to keep in contact with the line, but the focus moves to the clubface, clubshaft and arms. Most tour swings see a shift of the right arm up off the Plane Line which creates a slightly upright left arm position when compared to the original Plane Line. The clubshaft is pointing parallel to the target line or stance line with the leading edge of the clubface in a perfectly square position, parallel to the outside of the left arm. This is a very neutral position at the Top, requiring few compensations during the downswing.
