The Classic Swing, Position 5: Halfway Down

In the downswing when the left arm is parallel to the ground. Best viewed from face-on.
Face-On Target Line
The transition from backswing to downswing occurs when the player reaches this position. The space between the left shoulder and the Shoulder Line has been eliminated as the weight has begun to lead the club back towards the ball. This action of "stepping into" the downswing is the proper sequence of motion for creating power and consistency. It also serves to relocate the head to the middle of the Head Circle while the right hip creates more space between it and the Hip Line. The angle between the left arm and clubshaft has become narrower as the swing stores power. Additionally, the clubshaft angle has flattened due to the right arm becoming lower than the left. The body is working to lead the club into impact. As a result, the head drops slightly due to an increased "squat" in the lower body. This action is similar to a high jumper lowering down before springing up and is used by many professionals to increase clubhead speed. The rotation of the lower body serves to keep the tush on the line while the clubshaft continues to work back to the Plane Line to create an "on-plane" attack.
